Teaching

Introducing children to music and making it ‘fun’ has been a life-long passion.  When he worked for D’Oyly Carte Opera, Andrew developed a Schools Workshop, where singers and musicians went into schools and introduced opera to children.

Later on he came into contact with the Paul Rolland and Colourstrings methods of teaching, both having a major effect on his methods.

A teaching post at Royal Russell School in Croydon and conversations with Headmaster Chris Hedges, led to the first group tuition scheme starting in 1997.  An invitation to join the music department at Rowan preparatory School came in 2008, and Andrew began a second string initiative, currently in its 10th year.

For adults, and pupils who wish to learn out of school, Andrew is happy to offer individual tuition at his home in Molesey.  Availability is limited.

Parents are invited to sit-in on all lessons.  Sometimes these can act as a top-up to school tuition and/or help prepare for scholarship auditions.
